Welcome to Cut Your Auto Quote!

In the world we live today, getting insurance for your vehicle can be a major problem, especially if you are a young driver with zero or little no claims bonus, or drive a "fast" or expensive "car." This blog will show you the major factors that effect your insurance quote, and how you can reduce that quote. Insurer's essentially start with a base price for your car model, then apply "loadings" or "multipliers" to it based on your personal circumstances. We'll look at these circumstances and see how you can change them (without actually changing anything) to give u a more affordable motor insurance quote!

There are many factors we simply can't change, such as age, or no claims bonus, but others we can work on. It's worth noting that these changes should be kept within the bounds of legality or your insurance could be invalidated (if noticed). We'll go through them in order that they typically appear on a motor insurance quote form

1. POSTCODE: The area you live is one of the most important factors in your insurance quote after your age and car model. If you live in an area that is plagued with auto crime, you can be sure your insurer will punish you for that. I'm by no means suggesting a house move, but does your mother/father/grandparents live in a better area, an area with less car crime, where you could insure your car there? Usually the address has to match you license, but the £20 fee to change this is small compared to the hundreds you'll save on insurance. Your postcode can effect your premium by as much as 50%

2. MARITAL STATUS: Simply, married or cohabiting folk are considered less of a risk than single folk. Again, not suggesting marriage, but couldn't a flat mate/friend in your house actually count as a partner? 5% savings!

3. EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Those in full time employment or housewives/husbands spend less time in the car and therefore less time to crash it. A little bit of interpretation could see 10 hours a week in the local chip shop as your full time employment! Unemployed/Student isn't the correct answer here! 5% savings!

4. EMPLOYMENT: Footballers, celebrities, racing car drivers beware, you will pay extra! I can't see many reading this insurance blog anyway, so we won't worry about them just yet! However, if you're job involves a lot of driving, or other high-risk activities, you're faced with an additional loading. Be as bland as possible in selecting your employment, "civil servant" or "office worker" could cover a multitude of sins. Also, look out for insurers who give big discounts to the 999 services or military! 10% savings!

5. MILEAGE: All insurers give discounts to low mileage drivers, the usual threshold being around 8000. Fortunately your insurer has no access to your car's mileage data.......Think about it! 5% savings!

6. NON -MANUFACTURER EXTRAS: In the event of a crash, only those extras which affect the cars performance will invalidate your claim, however if u start declaring fancy alloys, bumpers, spoilers, go faster stripes etc, you will be charged and additional insurance premium for it No need to declare in reality!

Lastly, if you're coming to renew your insurance, and changing insurer, (which you should ALWAYS) d0, and you still haven't got the maximum years no claims, ask your current insurer if they give you "extra" years no claims bonus. Some do it as a matter of course, and others will give u a 3 year certificate when in fact u only have 2. There is totally no harm in asking!

Bear these points in mind when getting your next car insurance quote, and see how much you could save!
